After becoming involved in a serious incident during his duty, police officer Daigo Agawa decides to leave the city behind and move with his wife and young daughter to the quiet mountain village of Kuge. Surrounded by forests and far from the pressures of his previous life, the village appears to be the perfect place for the family to recover and start fresh. However, there is an unsettling detail that lingers in the background. The police officer who previously worked in the village disappeared under mysterious circumstances, a fact that few residents seem willing to discuss openly. Not long after Daigo settles into his new role, a disturbing discovery is made when the body of an elderly woman is found in the mountains. The influential Goto family quickly claims that the woman was killed by a bear, suggesting it was simply a tragic accident. Yet as Daigo examines the scene more carefully, he notices something that does not fit the story: a bite mark that appears to be human.
